As a child, sarcasm wasn't permitted by us kids in my home. Mom called it sassing, and her punishment was a 'good old dose of hickory tea'. For those of you that have never heard that phrase. it means getting whipped with a switch. I suppose, in a way, my shy personality saved me from a lot of the old hickory tea she served.. lol But with genetics and all, sarcasm has always run through my veins, courtesy of my daddy's side of the family... and Lord, my daddy was THE walking dictionary of sarcasm. He had a comeback for every conversation and situation! I never saw him at a loss for words. Mom, on the other hand, was an extremely intelligent woman with a no nonsense attitude on life. So naturally Dad's sarcastic wit was neither appreciated or tolerated by her. So Dad saved his tomfoolery and monkey shines for the times we were out of Mom's earshot, and those times are among my favorite treasured memories... I see more and more of my dad in my personality with each passing year. And I consider that a wonderful blessing, because laughter is truly the best medicine!
