Evidently pride & dignity was shown in the way I carried myself... because apparently the little one took notice of that fact.
I had the pleasure of teaching my granddaughter how to make 2 ingredient microwave fudge, which is a very simple recipe for an 11 year old. I chose the version where you remove it from the microwave every 30 seconds (to prevent her from accidentally burning herself) and stir it every time the microwave stops, for a total cooking time of 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. After stirring it the first time, she ran and got her little wooden stool out of her bedroom and placed in on the floor in front of the microwave so that she could sit down and "rest" after she placed it back in the microwave between her "exhausting" stirrings of the fudge. And she didn't sit quietly either- "This is taking sooooo long...Why can't we just buy fudge at the grocery store?... Does it have to cool before we can eat it?....Well, how long does it have to stay in the refrigerator?...Can't we just put it in the freezer? ...Awwwe, man!" Well, I've had suspicions for a while, but now I'm convinced that my beautiful granddaughter lacks patience. Another observation I made today is that she is definitely not cut out for manual labor, so I advised her to keep her grades up so she would have a better chance of a good future in life. "All this stirring is exhausting me, man.. We don't have to make fudge out of it. We can pour it into glasses and drink it like a milkshake!" I informed her that was not an option. Well, her fudge turned out perfectly, and she was very happy with the end result. I am by no means complaining about our little cooking class today. It was one of the most pleasurable (and slightly aggravating) projects that I've ever done with her! We had so much fun today! I love her more than words could ever say! I think we'll try this fudge recipe next. It has 3 ingredients. She will probably need a nap after that project! 3-INGREDIENT REESE'S FUDGE
1 container vanilla frosting (basic kind- not fluffy!)
1 10-oz package peanut butter chips
1-10-oz bag mini Reese’s Pieces
Take foil seal off frosting container and microwave for 30 seconds. Put peanut butter chips in a bowl and microwave for 1 minute. Stir frosting and melted chips together well. Add about 3/4 of the bag of mini Reese’s Pieces. Spread in a greased 8×8 or 9×9 pan. Top with remaining Reese’s. Let sit on the counter until solid- about 30 minutes.
